Phi Sigma Sigma
Iota Pi Chapter
About Iota Pi...

Our founding members at initiation and instillation with Grand Archon Alicia Scott, April 21, 2012
“Phi Sigma Sigma is a dynamic sisterhood of powerful women fostering uncompromising principles, igniting positive change and embracing individuality.” The Iota Pi chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma is proud to be the first sorority at Salem State University. Lanae LaRose is the woman responsible for bringing the sisterhood to campus. Lanae attended Coastal Carolina University and was a member of the Theta Beta chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma. She transferred to SSU and wanted to bring her Phi Sigma Sigma experience to the North Shore, so she proceeded to contact Phi Sig headquarters and began the process of founding the Iota Pi chapter. Headquarters sent their representatives and together they started the process of putting together the ambassador group. Ambassadors were the girls interested in joining Phi Sig who helped get the chapter started and helped to recruit more girls. The ambassadors did this for the entire fall 2011 semester. In the spring 2012 semester the founding class was formed. Headquarters stationed a consultant, Simone Horman, who was their mentor in getting the sorority kicked off. They worked throughout the Spring 2012 semester to make their dream of creating a sorority on campus a reality. On April 21st, 2012 headquarters sent officials such as grand archon, Alicia Scott, and the chapter was officially installed. There were more than 40 girls in the founding class.
The sisters at Salem State University enjoy spending time with each other and engage in many activities where they have the opportunity to bond. Sisterhood Chair plans events every Wednesday night for the sisters. Past events have included “Galentine’s Day,” where the girls set up a chocolate fountain and enjoyed some Valentine’s Day treats; they hosted a friendly competition at Laser Quest, have had movie nights, skating in the Boston Commons, bowling trips and many more fun activities.
